How To Make Your Funeral As Environmentally Friendly As Possible

In today’s culture, being as environmentally friendly as possible is a big deal to most people. Whether this be cutting out single-use plastics, or switching to a natural, reusable deodorant. And often wanting to be environmentally friendly can continue into death.

Read on to find out more about making your funeral and final arrangements as environmentally friendly as possible.

Green Funerals

If you are fond of the great outdoors, a green funeral is the best way to continue your love of nature and be as environmentally friendly as possible. You could choose to be buried in an environmentally friendly coffin, such as options that disintegrate over time and help the surrounding soil.

Cremation

Bodies take up a lot of space on this planet, and as more get buried we have to take away more green spaces to make room for burial places. Cremation is a great alternative if you’re conscious that you will be taking up space in the ground once you die.

With cremation, your ashes can then be looked after by your loved ones as a lasting token, or you can arrange to have them spread in an area that means a lot to you. Just be wary when spreading ashes though, as they can harm the environment if all dumped in one spot.

Another great environmentally friendly method of using your ashes for good is by mixing them with seeds and then being planted. This way your ashes will combine in the soil and soon you’ll have a tree that represents your commitment to the environment for years to come.

Tributed To Charity

One big way that funerals damage the environment is through floral tributes. They are a key part of many funerals, however, this takes flowers from their natural habitat and they will die after a few days.

Instead of asking for floral tributes, why don’t you aid the environment instead by asking for your guests and those who want to pay tribute to donate to a charity? If you have a certain charity that you love which aids the environment, this means you can help them out in the event of your death.
