With the number of changing restrictions and uncertainty around COVID-19, it’s hard to know what you can and can’t do when planning a funeral. If you or your attendees are vulnerable then you may need to make a few changes to the proceedings to ensure that everyone is safe while still having the best send-off possible.
Here are a few things to consider when planning a covid-friendly funeral.
Think about remote attendees
Depending on the current restrictions in terms of attendees it’s possible that not everyone will be able to attend the funeral due to large capacities and being too vulnerable. A good alternative to this is adding remote features to proceedings such as a live stream where family and friends can watch the funeral remotely.
Inform everyone of the current restrictions
It’s important that attendees know the restrictions that are in place for funerals. For example, if masks are required then make sure everybody knows in advance. You’ll want everyone to be as safe as possible so be sure to communicate this important information and stay up to date with government advice.
Consider a private funeral
In some cases, a small private funeral may be best. In terms of safety and privacy, if you feel like something low-key and private is the best option, speak to your funeral director and keep the venue private. You could then plan a larger memorial later down the line where you can celebrate the deceased’s life with all of your friends and family.
Organise memorial items
If not everyone can attend the funeral, sharing memorial items is a nice way of bringing people together remotely. For example, why not send out seeds of your loved one’s favourite plant? That way everyone can have something to remember the deceased by even if they are unable to attend the funeral itself.
